Effect of compost application on preservation of positive physical properties of soil
Original language description
Effects of compost application on soil environment was studied in a pilot experiment performed in the potato-growing region within the period of 2008 ? 2012. Experimental plots were established on permanent grassland and on arable land situated in two different localities. Obtained results demonstrated a positive effect of compost application on physical properties of soil. On permanent grassland, significant differences in soil structure and soil penetration resistance were recorded after the application of the highest dose of compost (Variant 3) while on arable land the most significant differences were observed only in soil penetration resistance. As compared with Variant 1 (Control) the applications of medium and high doses of compost (i.e. of 80 and 150 t.ha-1) resulted in a decrease in values of soil penetration resistance. In the last experimental year, values of selected physical properties of soil were similar in all variants under study and in both localities.
