Effect of water erosion on soil physical properties

  • Original language description

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of water erosion on changes in soil quality on 13 plots of the Czech Republic land. Sampling criteria were as follows: soil type (chernozem), morphology (sloping fields with marked runways of concentrated runoff), and cultivated crops (wide-row crops). All localities were situated in the maize-growing region of South Moravia. In years 2012- 2014 were monitored the following parameters: variability of water stability of aggregates (WSA), structure coefficient (SC), porosity and bulk density (BD). On each slope, altogether 3 sampling points were established, viz. in the upper, middle and lower parts of the slope. Soil samples were collected not only from the ploughing layer (0.05.-0.15 m) but also from the subsoil (0.30-.040 m). Experimental results were statistically processed using the multi-factorial analysis of variance and the Tukey’s tests of simple contrasts. The highest WSA and SC values were recorded in upper parts of plots. There were also differences in values recorded in different depths of sampling. The average values of bulk density and porosity were equivalent in all parts of slopes. The obtained results indicated that erosion processes taking place on slopes might influence physical properties of soil.
