Response of clover to fertilization with nitrogen and phosphorus – Effect on the content of plant available nutrients in the soil and biomass yield
Original language description
The main goal of this work was to determine the effect of fertilization with N and P on three varieties of clover (Trifolium incarnatum L., Medicago lupulina L., Trifolium repens L.), their biomass production and soil quality under the cultivated crop. Soil conditions were monitored using the following indicators: content of plant available nutrients (P, Ca, Mg), Ctot and Ntot. The measured values will be used as a basis for the technology of growing clover and maize in mixed cropping. Our greenhouse pot experiment was carried out to confirm or to refute the effect of fertilization on the parameters. Three experimental variants with different fertilization methods (control; application of P; application of N) were prepared. Each variant contained three different varieties of clover. As to chemical-physical parameters, it can be stated that no influence of cultivated plants was found on the content of basic available nutrients. On the contrary, partial significant differences (a = 0.05) in the contents of plant available nutrients were found between variants without fertilizer application and variants with the application of P (+ 25% Ca; +30% P) and N (+14% P; +8% Ca). Another important monitored parameter was the production of plant biomass. The effect of the plants was secondary again and the yield was mainly influenced (a=0.05) by the fertilization technology. The application of N resulted in yield increased by 40 % in comparison with the P fertilization. The reason for the same yield and nutrients uptake is the fact that all plants belonged to the same family, which explains their identical yield potential. No detectable influence of cultivated crops on most of the monitored parameters was found. On the other hand, these values can also be seen as eliminating the potentially negative effect of fertilizers or pointing to the absence of their application onto the soil and soil environment.
