Nickel-Based Structural Material MONICR for Molten Salt Reactors Applications

  • Original language description

Materials research for molten fluoride technologies played an important role in existing R&D activities focused on MSR development. The most important was the development of nickel-based superalloy MONICR, which was designed and developed by COMTES FHT Company as the Czech structural material for MSR and FHR technology [1]. The basic corrosion and irradiation tests of MONICR, which is similar to American alloy Hastelloy N, were realized in previous projects, a further development of the alloy semi-pilot production and further tests of high/temperature microstructure stability, hightemperature mechanical stability and radiation embrittlement will be studied in the new project, in which a molten fluoride salt loop program was initiated. The out of pile loop program will contribute to the preparation of the MSR mock-up design, which should be a final stage of the new project. The project creates a platform for running Czech – US cooperation in MSR/FHR development [2].
