The Origin of the Czech and Slovak Pluralist Party System
Original language description
The article analyzes the process of pluralistic party system renewal in Czechoslovakia after the fall of communism in 1989. It shows initial conditions and major actors, as well as factors that influenced party system structure and behaviour in the environment of post-communist society without recent democratic tradition. Special attention of the text is devoted to the differences between Czech and Slovak party systems, as both parts of then united Czechoslovakia showed different features in the party systems already in past, and similar situation occured appeared after 1989. After introduction of key political parties, election results of 1990 general parliamentary elections and its impact on the party system are analyzed.
