Labor Mobility in Central European EU-Member Countries.
Original language description
We analyze labor market flows in the Czech Republic (CR), Slovakia and Poland, using the monthly data from the longitudinal EU-SILC database. We find that relative involvement of working-age population in gross labor market flows is approximately five times lower in central Europe than in the U.S./UK. In addition the fairly low degree of mobility in central European labor markets is confirmed by the analysis of transition probabilities (hazard rates). Here the differences in comparison with the U.S./UKare again of a similar magnitude, above all with respect to the hazard rate of moving from unemployment to employment and vice versa.
