Witches and Rebels: Archaic Beliefs and Their Misuse by the Power Discourse (in selected Bengali texts)
Original language description
The article analyzes selected Bengali texts (fairy tales and short stories) dealing with the literary character of "witch" and theorizes the particular figurations within the paradigms of feminist archetypal criticism. The conclusion points to overlapping of the concept of the witch as a supernatural, magical being and that of a disobedient, mundane woman. Both rebel against androcentric power order, be it divine or mundane.
