Article discusses the notion of adaptation, specifically in the context of adapting literary texts in the English language for the film screen. It identifies some of the most decisive strategies for text-to-film adaptation, and comments on how they are realized in contemporary film practice. In the second part it discusses some inspiring and innovative examples of such adaptations, and introduces thus their detailed analyses provided in the individual chapters of the manuscript.
