This conference is inter-disciplinary and welcomes research findings in fields such as sociology, anthropology, economics, political science, international relations, diplomacy, along with international law and history. The main objective of the conference is to cover and analyze current non-traditional security issues in the Indo-Pacific, as well as to scrutinize whether these threats enhance or impede regional cooperation. The central theme of the conference was Knowledge on and within Africa. The theme reflects the belief that in the present globalized world the image of Africa is distorted twice: first, the way in which knowledge of this continent is handled by the dominant "guardians" of knowledge, and secondly by deliberately suppressing knowledge of Africa. Production of knowledge, its distribution and consumption are influenced by the global dynamics of power. The aim of this two-day workshop was, among other things, to contribute to a better understanding of the African continent, which is a place of predominant afropesimism but also a source of many hopes and future significant resources.
