Tagore in Czech Literary Translation: Interpretation and Gender Analysis

  • Original language description

This text stems from the perspective of gender methodology and explores the way of translating selected concepts in Tagore´s poems, as translated by the two leading Czech specialists on Tagore - Lesny and Zbavitel. The first two analysed concepts denote the female in specific contexts; the third one designates the divine. The analysis applies feminist literary theories and focuses on the discoursive power of gendered aspects of language which also finds a specific reflection in translations.
