Radicalization and Religious Radicalization as Causes of European Homegrown Terrorism and Homegrown Radicalism
Original language description
The text focuses on the analysis of radicalization, namely religiously motivated radicalization, and on the processes of spreading the religiously motivated radicalization that can lead to homegrown terrorism and homegrown radicalism in Europe. The phenomenon of radicalization will be theoretically defined within the framework of the social movement theory, conversion theory and social networks. I analyze the concept of radicalization in the context of religious radicalization as a current social phenomenon and I also try to find out reasons behind radicalization as well as behind religious radicalization. In the second part, I analyze the connection between religiously motivated homegrown terrorism and homegrown radicalism. The phenomenon of religiously motivated radicalism is divided into two basic branches. On the one hand, I identify radicalization as an independent phenomenon, which is caused without religion. Then, I analyze radicalization of religiously motivated radical groups. In this context, I combine the phenomenon of homegrown terrorism and homegrown radicalism. In the text, I focus on the analysis of homegrown terrorism and homegrown radicalism in Europe and on the definitions of these terms. While radicalization and religiously motivated radicalization is understood as possibly leading to homegrown terrorism and homegrown radicalism, the phenomenon of homegrown terrorism and homegrown radicalism is understood as a consequence of radicalizing processes. The aim of the text is henceforth analyze the processes of radicalization, religiously motivated radicalization, homegrown terrorism and homegrown radicalism as processes that are mutually interconnected and interdependent. It is essential for the analysis of homegrown terrorism and of homegrown radicalism to know who committed a terrorist attack, if it was a radical person with outside Europe origins or of European descent.
