ANALYSIS OF LEGISLATIVE COALITIONS IN THE CITY ASSEMBLIES OF REGIONAL CAPITALS AFTER THE MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS OF 2018 IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
Original language description
The main purpose of this work is to analyze coalition practices in the city assemblies of regional capitals in the Czech Republic following the last municipal elections in 2018. The presented research aims to analyze and describe in detail the inner dynamics of the formation of party alliances at the local level, in this case represented by thirteen regional capitals and their city assemblies. The objective is to gain a more complex understanding of the deeper trends affecting the development of party alliances within a longer time horizon. On the theoretical level, the work seeks to apply the theory of political coalitions to the municipal political and party system, and centers around the following research question: If we apply the aforementioned theory of political coalitions-explaining the process of coalition formation-to the formation of alliances in the city councils of regional capitals, are its theoretical assumptions still valid? General research found that there is a discrepancy between the theoretical assumptions of the theory of political coalitions and the coalition practice applied in the environment of the city assemblies of regional capitals, especially as far as the frequency of different coalition alternatives is concerned.
