Analyses of the start-up and shut-down of SCWR fuel qualification test loop with ATHLET code
Original language description
A fuel qualification test (FQT) to be performed on a small-scale fuel assembly in the LVR-15 research reactor is planned within the development of the SuperCritical Water Reactor (SCWR). The aim of the SCWR-FQT project is to design and license a supercritical loop including an experimental channel with 4 fuel pins and with the related safety and auxiliary systems. This study describes the results of thermal hydraulic analyses of the loop performed by using the ATHLET 3.0A code compared to the results obtained by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University using the ATHLET-SC code version adapted so as to accommodate supercritical water. Steady-state simulations were used for this benchmark. Furthermore, analyses of transients were made for the start-up and shut-down phases of the FQT loop with a view to exploring the ATHLET 3.0A code?s capability to simulate transients between the subcritical and supercritical water regions.
