Czech energy mix 2050: A new methodology to include electricity production externalities for decision making
Original language description
Today, Czech Republic is engaged to switch from mainly coal-based to more nuclear and renewable electricity generation. What are the costs and impacts of each potential technology? How to compare with a unique scale different kind of externalities? Thisstudy aims at developing an original electricity generation model to value not comparable impacts. It considers electricity demand, relative costs of each technology, as well as following externalities: - Fossil fuel depletion (loss of natural capital) -Fuel or Technology imports (loss of monetary capital) - CO2 emissions (global climate change) - Environmental impact (Land/Water usage, wastes, pollution) - Social impact (Health) - Nuclear wastes (liability to long term storage) Once life cycle impactsare known for each technology, one can weight each of them and determine the best energy mix for a territory. This tool is thus a decision help for authorities to support their energy policies. Besides, it allows a complete transparency.
