Corrosion behaviour of metallic materials in the experimental helium loop (HTHL-1)
Original language description
High temperature gas-cooled reactors (HTGR) are not only an attractive source of electricity and process heat for industry, but they can also broaden a range of applications of nuclear energy (i.e. cogeneration, hydrogen production or synthetic hydrocarbon fuels production from coal or biomass). Despite the high thermal efficiency and enhanced safety, the HTGR systems impose significant challenges, especially in the field of structural materials. Efforts in this paper have focused on the material testing in the High Temperature Helium Loop (HTHL-1). TheHTHL-1 is a unique experimental facility dedicated to the investigation of material degradation in conditions simulating helium coolant in HTGR systems. In HTHL-1, selected materials Alloy 800H and P91 were exposed to circulating heliumenvironment at elevated temperatures (up to 850?C). Subsequently, the mean weight changes of the specimens were determined and the specimens were examined and analysed by scanning electron microscopy.
