Assessment of Hypervapotron Heat Sink Performance using CFD under DEMO Relevant First Wall Conditions
Original language description
This paper analyses the performance of Hypervapotron heat sink for FW limiter application under DEMO operating conditions to find out the limits of its performance. This paper takes into account different materials (CuCrZr, EUROFER), operating temperatures and pressures (~220 deg.C and 5-7 MPa for CuCrZr and PWR conditions 285-300 deg.C and 15.5 MPa for EUROFER) and try to predict the performance of the Hypervapotron heat sink. Where it is attempted to establish its limits in handling the heat loads before reaching the upper limits from temperature point of view (350 deg.C for CuCrZr and 550 deg.C for EUROFER). In order to assess the performance numerical simulations are performed using STARCCM+, a commercial computational fluid dynamics code, which was previously validated in predicting the thermal hydraulic performance of Hypervapotron geometry. Based on the results the potential usage of Hypervapotron heat sink for DEMO reactor will assed. Poster at 12th International Symposium on Fusion Nuclear Technology, in Jeju Island, Korea.
