Sorption of vanadium(v) and molybdenum(vi) onto polymeric sorbent with poly-hydroxyl groups
Original language description
Vanadium and molybdenum metals belong to the group of essential elements. Nevertheless, high concentration of these metals in water is not tolerated and therefore, presence of these metals in water is monitored. Mostly, vanadium and molybdenum metals get into the environment by human activity, especially by coal burning and petroleum refining (vanadium) and by catalysts and steel processing (molybdenum). When these metals are dissolved in water, they occur in a form of oxoanions. This work deals with selective sorption of vanadium(V) and molybdenum(VI) in a form of oxoanions on a selective sorbent with diol groups. This type of sorbent has a high selectivity for vanadium and molybdenum oxoanions. In the first part of our work, the influence of pH on the sorption of individual oxoanions was studied. Furthermore, we performed experiments with a solution containing a mixture of these two metals and evaluated their sorption on the sorbent. The second part of our work was focused on the influence of competitive anions (chlorides, sulphates), which can be also present in water, on the sorption of molybdenum and vanadium oxoanions during batch experiments.,Langmuir isotherm,a representative indicator of sorption parameters, was evaluated from the experimental results.
