    Pitting corrosion on steam turbine blades steels

  • Original language description

    Pitting corrosion on steam turbine blades become significant problem. Corrosion pits are often places of fatigue crack initiation. This sort of degradation is often observed on last stages of the turbine, where steam condensation occurs. This paper shows results of corrosion resistance measurement on two different steels that are usually used for manufacturing blades on steam turbine last stages. Corrosion behaviour of steel Böhler T552 and Böhler T671 was tested in 35ppm chloride solution. The environment was chosen to emulate worst possible conditions, common chloride concentration is much lower. Determination of pitting corrosion resistance was done by electrochemical cyclic polarisation. In case of T552 steel was also influence of heat treatment investigated.
