Microstructural study of 15-15 Ti-Stabilized Stainless Steel For SFR Fuel Cladding
Original language description
Titanium stabilized, 15-15Ti stainless steel cladding is the primary choice for fuel cladding in current fast spectrum reactors like sodium cooled fast reactor. The choice of this cladding material grade is due to their superior irradiation swelling resistance and enhanced thermal creep strength in comparison to other austenitic steels. This paper presents, microstructural evaluation of a recently produced nuclear grade DIN 1.4970 cladding material cold worked at 24 % and 46 %. The microstructure was characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy. Chemical analysis was performed by EDX and texture was determined by EBSD. Hardness was evaluated by nano-indentation method. In both the cold worked materials, typical microscopic features of Ti-(C, N) precipitates, deformation twins and slip bands were revealed. Precipitates were mostly in the range of sub-micrometre to few microns order. Elongated stringer-like TiC precipitates in the tube drawing direction were also revealed. Hardness tests results will be presented showing correlation between local microstructure and mechanical properties.
