Research of materials and components for molten salt reactors

  • Original language description

A specific type of nickel-based superalloy MONICR has been developed especially for the construction of nuclear reactors cooled by molten fluoride salts (MSR - Molten Salt Reactor). Extreme demands in terms of excellent mechanical properties, corrosion resistance in molten fluoride salts, creep strength and resistance to radiation embrittlement, even at high temperatures, are imposed on developed nickel-based alloy. MONICR alloy developed by COMTES FHT Inc. can be molded under defined conditions by free forging, strip rolling and extrusion. Another problem of MSR technology is a choice and design of special sealing elements for safety and hardwearing coupling of flanges under the molten fluoride salt media. This coupling is developed by MICo Company.
