Removal of Pb(II) by magnetically modified sawdust from aqueous solutions
Original language description
In this work, adsorption of Pb(II) ions on magnetically modified sawdust was studied by using batch adsorption techniques. The equilibrium adsorption level was determined to be a function of the pH and initial Pb(II) concentration. The equilibrium nature of Pb(II) adsorption was described by selected isotherm models. The experimental adsorption data were fitted to the Freundlich adsorption model. The maximum adsorption capacity (97.09 mg.g-1) of sawdust was achieved at a pH 5. The initial concentration of the adsorbate of sawdust strongly affected the process. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model best represented the experimental data of studied adsorption process, presenting good linear correlation coefficients. It was observed that magnetically modified sawdust from the wood industry could be a good candidate as potential low-cost adsorbent for removal of Pb(II) ions from aqueous solutions.
