Selective sorption composites for cesium capture

  • Original language description

The article describes the preparation and subsequent testing of composite selective sorbents for capture of cesium cation. The aim is to find sorbents that are highly selective for the metals mentioned above, either in strongly salted solutions (concentrates from evaporators = RAO). The composites will be composed of natural materials (cellulose or natural zeolite with a high content of clinoptilolite). The natural materials are used particularly to attach their own functional groups, on which chemisorption or ion exchange will take place. The functional groups used will be, for example, ammonium phosphomolybdate, potassium cobalt hexacyanoferrate. For the evaluation of produced composites, equilibrium batch sorption tests will be done. During these experiments the maximum absorption capacity will be sought using the Langmuir's isotherms. SEM/EDX techniques, surface size determination, cation exchange capacity determination, Raman microspectrometry and FT-infrared spectroscopy will be used as a further evaluation of the composites produced.
