Microstructural Evaluation of Nickel Based Alloy Inconel 718 after Exposure in SCWL
Original language description
Within the R4S project, material research in supercritical water was realised by exposures in Supercritical Water Loop (SCWL). One of tested material was Inconel 718 which is candidate alloy for the new type of Generation IV reactors (GIV), specifically Supercritical Water-Cooled Reactor (SCWR). Specimens were exposed to the demineralised water with temperature 395 °C and pressure 25 MPa for 1,000 hours. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) in combination with X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) were used to evaluate the microstructure of Inconel 718 after the exposure to supercritical water. All these methods confirmed a growth of crystals Iron Aluminum Chromium Oxide – hercynite and chromite Fe(Al,Cr)2O4 with average size of grain about 1 μm on the surface of specimens.
