Nuclear fusion solid waste and its recycling /Studie pevných odpadů z jaderné fúze a jejich recyklace
Original language description
The European Union Roadmap to Fusion Energy aims to produce electricity by nuclear fusion reactors DEMO (DEMOnstration Fusion Reactor Prototype) which shall deliver to the electricity grid several hundred MW of electricity planned in the middle of this century. Production of DEMO power plant will result in the creation of radioactive material through neutron activation and contamination with tritium. The power plant will produce following kind of waste: gas, liquid, and solid conditioned and unconditioned waste. The aim of this paper is to analyse quantity of solid waste, processing methods and its possibility of recycling in the current DEMO design. There is an ongoing evaluation of potential waste from quantity, lifetime, and renewal of basic structural materials point of view. The smaller and larger components for the implementation of controlled nuclear fusion at existing facilities (JET), upcoming facilities (ITER) and the future DEMO fusion power plant have been analysed and experience from current fusion operational facilities and the fission industry are considered as well as. Current alternative of solid waste recycling has been evaluated, as these are often materials with limited supplies in the world. Based on the results of current research, the basic concept and construction of part of the device, including the use of basic materials, have changed several times. The specific construction materials for the DEMO are not exactly decided yet.
