Comparative Evaluation of Pure Iron and Ferritic Alloys via Positron Annihilation Spectroscopy
Original language description
Ferritic alloys with chromium contents of 9% or higher are considered prime candidates for nextgeneration nuclear reactors due to their excellent corrosion resistance. In particular, FeCrAl alloys have emerged as promising alternatives to zirconium-based alloys for fuel cladding in Light Water Reactors (LWRs), primarily because of their superior oxidation resistance in high-temperature steam environments. Another key driver behind the exploration of FeCrAl as a replacement is safety, as Zr-based cladding has been associated with severe degradation in certain scenarios. Report CVŘ-5447.
