Influence of frost-susceptible companion plants on abundance of Psylliodes chrysocephala and its antagonists in winter oilseed rape
Original language description
Three-factorial small plot trials (plot area: 30 m2) in winter oilseed rape (WOSR) located in Šumperk (Northeastern part of Czechia) were managed in three seasons (2021/22, 2022/23, 2023/24). They aimed to assess the impacts of crop diversity (Factor 1), WOSR variety (Factor 2) and method of cabbage stem flea beetle control (CSFB; Psylliodes chrysocephala) (Factor 3) on abundance of the insect pest larvae in plants. Factor crop diversity consisted of WOSR monocrop and 2-4 different combinations of WOSR with frost susceptible accompanying crops, (FSAC); Factor WOSR variety comprised 7-9 varieties per trial; Factor method of CSFB control consisted of 2-3 methods differing in insecticide application timing and number of insecticide applications. Besides the small plot trials, large plot trials (plot area: 0.5 ha) were managed at the same locality during the three seasons. Each of the trials consisted of 2- 3 large plots that differed in crop composition: WOSR monocrop and 1 or 2 different combinations of WOSR with FSAC were compared per season. In each of the plots, assessment points were distributed in rectangular grid. In the trials the impact of crop composition / diversity on the activity density (based on pitfall trap catches), flight activity (assessed using yellow water traps) and distribution pattern (results of SADIE) of potentially effective CSFB egg predators (with special focus on the carabids Calathus fuscipes, Nebria brevicollis, Pterostichus melanarius and Trechus quadristriatus)) and the parasitoids of CSFB adults (Microctonus brassicae) and larvae (Tersilochus microgaster) was assessed.
