Evaluation of species diversity of pasture sward under different grassland management
Original language description
The effects of different levels of grazing utilization and mineral fertilization on the species diversity of permanent grasslands were studied in the locality Rapotín during 2003-2010. Within the study the mean values of Simpson´s diversity index decreased with decreasing number of grazing periods per year - from 5.31 to 4.90 for intensive and extensive grassland management, respectively. In mean of years, we found out a highly significant effect of fertilization (F = 71.69, P < 0.0001), whereas unfertilized grasslands showed a higher mean value of diversity index (DI = 5.72) than fertilized (DI = 4.60). The moderate treatment (three grazing periods per year) without mineral fertilization showed the highest value of the diversity index in the mean of years (DI = 6.08), which indicates a well-balanced community, better ecological conditions for species diversity and better ecological functions of those grasslands (lower leaching of nitrates etc.).
