Influence of growth stage of grasses and clover on dry matter intake of silages in heifers

  • Original language description

The aim of this article was assessment of voluntary dry matter intake (VI) of silages made from two perspective intergenetic grass hybrid Festulolium (Hykor and Perun) and red clover var. Amos (4n). In the first crop year (2011) there were conducted harvests at two different dates: I [at the end of the grass shooting growth stage] and II [with the time postponement by ca 14 days]. The experiment was conducted on 6 heifers using loose box housing. VI was influenced by harvest date. Value of VI (P<0.05) was higher in I (24.02 g/kg BW, SE = 2.43) than in II (18.48 g/kg BW, SE = 2.56). By different harvest dates of forages inscribed as I and II, it was observed the decrease of VI and NEL. On the other hand the value of NDF and crude fiber content increased.
