Influence of pellets granulometry on the emptying rate

  • Original language description

The importance of renewable sources in the Czech Republic is growing. The renewable s sources contribute to the overall energy requirement of the human society. The renewable sources also include fytomass. It is the energy obtained from biomass plants. Fytomass is burnt for example in the form of pressed pellets. For the study of motion and DEM modelling of pellet was selected the sample of grass Agrostis gigantea. The pellets are used as an alternative fuel for automatic boilers. This demands a problem-free transport of the fuel to the furnace. For this reason it was studied the possibility of modelling the flow of pellets. This article describes the method of finding the optimal input parameters to the DEM. The DEM simulation was compared with PIV measurements. This article also deals with the influence of granulometry choice of simulated sample of pellets. Granulometry of the test sample for PIV measurements was determined. The sample for DEM was selected in three variants. Variants were based on the choice of particle size classes. The result is a comparison of three evaluated variants of simulated sample. The findings indicate that the choice of particle size affects the flow of pellets. Simulated sample with particle size distribution of PIV sample has the different behaviour than expected.
