Economic and social attitudes of college students toward immigration policies: A comparative survey-based study from the Czech Republic and the US

  • Original language description

The goal of this article is to identify and compare the attitudes of college students from economics-related fields of study in the Czech Republic and the US concerning immigration policy built on an own survey-based investigation. The degree of dissatisfaction with immigration policy is distinctly higher among Czech respondents than among American. In addition, four fifths of the Czech respondents (and two thirds of the American respondents) think that there should be more public consultation on immigration policy. The topic of immigration and immigration policy at the current time resonates much more in the Czech Republic, and a greater percentage of respondents have a distinct view of it. From the answers to a range of questions, it is also clear that, in a number of policy areas, respondents’ awareness about these issues is significantly limited with an existing deficit in the educational system of Czech higher education.
