This paper covers the controversial issue whether and if so how to implement ethical behavior in Czech SMEs as integral part of a competitive strategy. We argue that SMEs play a major role in overcoming the economic crisis in the EU and the Czech Republic as well. Global competition forces SMEs to improve their strategy planning to keep up and enhance long-term sustainable competitive advantage. Corporate governance is also important for SMEs. The implementation of business related CSR projects resulting in a corporate culture based on ethical behavior which is embedded in the overall strategy create additional value and differentiation. We propose the use of a Balanced Scorecard system to improve the quality of strategy planning in SMEs and to implement a culture based on ethical behavior
