This case study deals with relationships between characteristic properties of anorganic ion exchange resins and heterogenous ion exchange membranes. At first chemical and temperature stability, humidity and particle size distribution of different types of ion exchange resins was analyzed. Then membranes with different filler/polymer matrix ratio and different particle size distribution of milled resins were prepared. Finally different ion exchange resins were used for preparing of heterogenous ion exchange membranes at fixed filler/polymer matrix ratio. We analyzed characteristic properties of input materials, intermediate and final products including influences to process of membrane preparation. On the basis of these results we are able to modify thecomposition of ion exchange membrane to reach required properties.
