Original language description
In electrodialysis with bipolar membranes (EDBPM), bipolar membrane (BPM) is stacked together with monopolar anion (AEM) and cation (CEM) exchange membranes into a membrane module to produce acids and hydroxides from their corresponding salts. Acid and hydroxide contamination by salt ions at higher product concentrations is currently one of the major limitations of the process. Generally, the thickness and charge density determines the ion transport as well as the corresponding co-ion leakage through both the bipolar and the homopolar membranes.
