Application of Electrodialysis with Heterogeneous Bipolar Membrane for H2SO4 and NaOH Reclamation from Industrial Wastewater,

  • Original language description

Heterogeneous bipolar membrane was developed and produced for pilot scale testing. New four compartment pilot module (salt, acid, base, electrode solution) was developed and produced. Pilot unit was developed and produced too and applied for treatment of wastewater coming from uranium production sludge water at GEAM Dolni Rozinka. Now sludge water is treated by combined technology of chemical and mechanical pretreatment, electrodialysis, reverse osmosis and evaporator and sodium sulfate is produced. Addition of electrodialysis with bipolar membrane (EDBM) would decrease operating costs of the treatment by decreasing of caustic soda and sulfuric acid purchase. Treatment capacity should be also increased as well as treatment technology combination possibilities. Industrial size EDBM module and unit is being developed for this application. Available pilot scale results will be presented in the paper in detail together with planned implementation of EDBM technology into existing sludge water treatment technology and approximate estimation of EDBM economy.
