Comparison of heterogeneous anion exchange membranes for nitrate ion removal from mixed salt solution
Original language description
Electrodialysis offers a suitable possibility to obtain deep desalination, however, the deep demineralised water is not suitable for direct production of drinking water. It is desirable to remove only some ions, for example excessive amounts of different ions or ions harmful for humans health. This paper confirmed that it is easier to separate monovalent and multivalent ions by electrodialysis, than remove only some of monovalent ions specifically. It was shown that it is possible to enhance removal of monovalent anions by adjusting the IEC of ion exchange resin, which has also an effect on the water content in membrane. From the prepared AEMs, AM-SBG2-HP enabled the greatest removal of NO3− towards Cl−, SO42− and H2PO4− after one hour of operating.
