    The effect of iron(III) concentration in nitric acid solutions on diffusion dialysis membrane performance

  • Original language description

    Diffusion dialysis is membrane process mainly used to recover acids or bases from a mixture with salts. The driving force of mass transfer is only the gradient of concentration. Because there is a concentration difference on the both sides of the membrane, the water from the stripping solution passes through the membrane to the feed solution due to osmosis. As mentioned in Luo (2011) and Palatý (2011). The aim of the work was to study the membrane performance for the separation of HNO3 and Fe(NO3)3 using diffusion dialysis membrane. The solutions used for the experiments contained various ratios of H+ to Fe3+ concentrations with a constant NO3− concentration at 4.5 mol L−1. The studied parameters were the acid recovery, the rejection of the iron and the osmotic water transport.
