Latexes as a matrices of heterogeneous ion-exchange membranes

  • Original language description

It has been found that heterogeneous membranes with content of 45 and 60 wt. % of commercial cation-exchange resin combined with all specific latex binders reached excellent electro-separation properties in terms of ion exchange capacity, areal and specific resistance, however, compared to commercial Ralex® membranes, heterogeneous membranes exhibited lower permselectivity and higher swelling in water. Despite this deficiency, crosslinking latexes containing 1,4-5 mol. % of MAA appeared as promising binding materials for the technologically inexpensive production of cation exchange heterogeneous membranes applicable in modest electro-separation processes, eg. gross desalination of water, applications where there is not high demand on permselectivity and consequently on high product purity.
