Comparison of desalination properties of ion-exchange membranes
Original language description
Desalination of brackish water is a challenging task for higher recovery of water. In most of the cases, water recovery is low with high wastage. Electrodialysis (ED) provides a solution of water desalination with high recovery. Ion-exchange membranes are the main component for electrodialysis system. Electrodialysis is a technique applied on industrial scale for the demineralization of aqueous feed streams. In electrodialysis (ED), a membrane stack containing alternating anion (AEM) and cation exchange membranes (CEM) is used for the selective transport of ions by applying a potential gradient over the system. Temperature of feed streams can strongly influence the performance of processes. In this research, commercial membranes are used for the investigation of temperature and temperature gradients on ED process.
