    Coal-fired power plants generate various solid wastes such as ash and slag, desulphurisation sludge and other energetic by-products. These solid wastes can serve as a source of leachate and are abundant in calcium, magnesium, sulphates, and heavy metals, which preclude their direct discharge into the watercourse. Currently, leachate is collected via a drainage system and put into sump pits. This water is subsequently utilised for dust suppression within the facility and as make-up water in the flue gas desulphurisation process. This leachate can be purified with appropriate technological treatment, thus minimising liquid discharge (MLD). The industrial wastewater under investigation in this study originated as leachate from ash, which was further concentrated by reverse osmosis. This project aims to evaluate the feasibility of employing a combination of different membrane processes to recover a significant volume of water, which may be repurposed in other industrial processes. An additional objective is to obtain a highly concentrated brine by-product. The membrane processes examined in this project include nanofiltration (NF), reverse osmosis (RO) and electrodialysis (ED).
