The present treatise pursues the issue of sexual offences in the early modern-time towns from the view of gender. The aspect presented here as crucial for understanding the subject of sexual delinquency in the 16th-century Bohemian towns is the authorityarticulated in the municipal law, the form of which had deeper roots in the studied period. The main legitimization pillar, on which the municipal law codification in relation to female sex was based, was - during this era equally as in the preceding medieval period ? the Bible and its interpretations. On this basis, municipal law perceived a woman as a person with limited legal capacity. The treatise points out the problematic character of researching the legal status of women in general, i.e. also townswomen, which is mainly linked with the employed spectrum of sources.
