Phenomenology, History, and Responsibility for One's Life
Original language description
I discuss the demand of taking responisibility for one's life, shared by late Husserl, early Heidegger and others, and I focus on the forms it takes in the work of Jan Patočka. Particularly, I show that one important dimension of Patočka doctrine of thethree movements of human existence is adopting a critical distance with regard of the already-available. Next, I show that this idea is involved and emphasized already in Patočka's papers about historicity from the 1930's, and I suggest that it is important also in Patočka's celebrated interpretation of Socrates from 1946.
