Whose Solidarity? Which Shaking? Patočka's Sixth Heretical Essay and the Limits of its Extraphilosophical Relevance

  • Original language description

After discussing briefly the meaning of the words "solidarity" and "shaking", I turn to Jan Patočka's main text dealing with the solidarity of the shaken, the 6th of the Heretical Essays on the Philosophy of History. First, I point out how difficult it is to find in Patočka support for any commonsensical policy in the area of international human rights. Then, I attempt to show (with help of Ernst Tugendhat's conception) what may be mora appropriate foundations of human rights. In the final and main part of the chapter, I provide an interpretation of the 6th essay, explaining the differents threads and their interplay.
