Heidegger in Communist Czechoslovakia
Original language description
First, I discuss the reception of Heidegger among the Czechoslovak Communist intellectuals, especially in Karel Kosík's "The Dialectics of the Concrete" (1963). Then, I deal briefly with the reception of Heidegger among Czechoslovak non-Communist intellectuals and dissidents of the 1940s to 1980s. Next, I analyze the role of Heidegger in Václav Havel's philosophical reflections, especially in his Letters to Olga written during his longest term in prison (1979-1982). Finally, I deal briefly with the role of the former Heidegger-scholars from the dissent in the new, post-1989 Czech democratic politics.
