The Holocaust in 1941 as Part of Security Warfare in the Rear of the Eastern Front, in Light of the Nazis Security Apparatus and Policy

  • Original language description

Through the perspective of Nazi security policy (using the method of discursive analysis), the chapter deals with the securing of the rear of the Eastern Front by deployed SS- and police- and Wehrmacht units. It points out the considerable influence of Himmler on all these deployed units, which were directly or indirectly subordinated to him. At the same time, the chapter examines the NS worldview linking Jew and partisan and applies these theoretical premises to the practice or conduct of the units deployed to the home front, using the concept of the objective enemy (H. Arendt) and the notion of ideology as defined by S. Zizek or Louis Althusser. The annihilation war waged by the Nazis in the East is interpreted by the chapter as an outgrowth - an evolution of the already present ideological determination of the concept of the enemies of the Reich that had been present in Himmler's and Heydrich's writings since at least the mid-1930s. It does not understand the mass killing of civilians with Jews in the first place as a spiral of terror that arose in the wake of the clash between two totalitarian regimes, but explains it through the failures of the Nazi military campaign to the East, which according to historian D. Stahel were crucial during the summer of 1941, and at the same time through the Nazi ideology of racial elimination, which understood and interpreted the figure of the Jew and the partisan as the same.
