The consumption of cutting fluids is enormous. There are many economical and environmental problems in the use, maintenance and disposal of traditional cutting fluids. Therefore there are the following environmental trends: Dry machining, cutting fluidsreduction, cutting fluids substitution, multifunctional oils, cutting fluids generating little emissions, substitution of cutting oils for emulsions and technological processes substitution.

Spotřeba pomocných technologických kapalin pro obrábění je vysoká. Existuje mnoho ekonomických, ekologických problémů při použití, udržování a likvidaci tradičních procesních kapalin. Proto existuje dnes více ekologických trendů vztahujících se k této oblasti: Obrábění bez kapalin, redukce množství kapaliny, náhrada tradičních kapalin kapalinami ekologického typu, multifunkční oleje, použití kapalin generujících menší množství emisí, náhrada emulzí procesními oleji a náhrada technologických procesů
