Application of metallographic methods for quality evaluation of welds
Original language description
Metallographic methods are often used as background for an explanation of the causes of low quality products, in this case, the joints that were created by welding. The chapter deals with the application of metallographic methods used to evaluate the quality of welds. Metallographic methods extend and complement the information obtained by the destructive and non-destructive testing of welds. Results of microstructural analysis welds give explanations for changes in mechanical properties and particularly explained by changes in the resistance to degradation of the weldment. This chapter provides two types of welded joints where it is documented that the metallographic evaluation methods weldment having their application regardless of chemical composition, microstructure and applying material weld. Based on the results of metallographic analysis can remove the cause of worse quality weld.
