Modal Indeterminacy and Evidentiality in Adverbial Expressions: A Culturome in Academic Writing?
Original language description
In this study a corpus of academic English is queried for modal items in permutations of adverbs and auxiliaries. The resulting data will enable a quantitative view on collocational strength between these items which fur-ther support a theory of a complex relationship between truth-value com-mitment on the side of the author (also known as modality) and evidentiality as an independent (i.e. not commitment-dependent) way to express a scientific fact.
