The Oxford Introductions to Language Study have recently been complemented by another publication, i.e. Translation by Juliane House, Professor Emerita of Applied linguistics at the University in Hamburg. As stated in the preface written by the Series Editor H.G.Widdowson, the purpose of the publication is mainly in promoting the awareness and providing access to the phenomenon of translation for both university students and intellectually challenged public. The book presents the basic terms concerningthe theory of translation and explains different approaches to translation as a secondary communication and a mediator, helping to overcome cultural barriers.
