The paper describes a heuristic strategy of Working Backwards and uses two school maths problems to present the strategy showing how these problems can be easily and efficiently solved. The strategy Working Backwards was presented to the pupils as part of a longitudinal research focusing on improving the culture of problem solving. Pupils, taking part in this research, all attend a grammar school in the Central Bohemia Region. This paper only concentrates on one of the classes that participated in the research. It also contains an authentic view of their teacher on the problems and example of the pupils solution of the "Heritage" problem.
