Territorial Identity of Regions: fluid regionalisation as an alternative for visualising boundaries

  • Original language description

The map output, entitled "Territorial Identity of Regions", offers a distinct perspective on the regionalisation of the border area between Czechia, Germany and Poland. It emphasises new forms of boundary representation as spatial entities, thereby surpassing the traditional approach of strictly defined lines. The creation of this map is based on an analysis of institutional boundaries from (map) documents combined with data obtained through participatory mapping, providing a comprehensive view of the overlapping identities of regions. This approach enables a comparison of institutional perceptions of regions with those of their inhabitants, revealing areas where these perspectives align and where discrepancies occur. The result is a versatile tool in the form of a complex map that offers deeper insights into intricate socio-geographical relationships, illustrates spatial connections between regions, and presents the dynamics of boundaries through innovative forms of visual representation. The application of this methodological approach extends beyond academic research, with the potential to serve as a valuable resource for planning and fostering cross-border cooperation.
